So I’m officially back from the basement and out with another post. I went down for the last 3 week due to my nuptials and honeymoon, plus I throw on an additional week just so I can get life restored and in order before thrown out another post. Since I lasted blog, there has been quite a good amount of sports events that have occurred, so instead of just focusing on one topic, I will just do a quick hoge-poge of what went down.
9/30/2011 –
Terry Francona leaves Red Sox – Really Boston? The guy wins you your first World Series in 86 years, another one 2 years later, and you run him out of town and pile on with allegations of pain killer addictions and martial problems? Stay Classy, Boston!! I hope you guys go another 86 years without winning another World Series title.
NBA Lock Out talks Cont. – Really, does anyone care about the NBA from the months of October thru February? With Major League Baseball in their playoffs and the NFL in full swing, you (NBA) won’t be missed.
MLB Playoffs start – Early predictions for the World Series are Phillies over Yankees in 6 games. The rotation of Halladay, Lee, Oswalt, and Hamels will be too much for the National League and the Yanks. A-Rod will go down in flames, along with his purple lipstick and fake tanning. Plenty of GTL'ng in the offseason.

1st Greatest Day!!!! - An honest man was made. Ms. Loveseat becomes Mrs. Armchair.
10/2/2011 –
San Francisco 49ers beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-23 – Statement win for Head Coach Jim Harbaugh. Starting to make a believer out of me and other 49er fans.
10/4/2011 –
NBA cancels pre-season – Please see previous NBA Lock Out comment.
10/5/2011 –
Steve Jobs dies – A true revolutionist. The world was literally in the palms of his hands.
10/6/2011 –
Robin Ventura hired as Chicago White Sox manager – In a related story, Texas Rangers Owner and President Nolan Ryan congratulates Robin Ventura by giving him noogies on his head.
Yankees lose Game 5 to the Tigers, eliminated from playoffs – A-Rod leaves the bat on his shoulder with the bases loaded in the 8th. Seven more years Yankee fans!!! Seven.More.Years!!! Ugh!!!!
10/7/2011 –
Cardinals beat the Phillies in Game 5, phills eliminated from playoffs –Well, there goes that prediction. Ryan Howard tears his Achilles as he was trying to get out of the batter’s box on the final out of the game, a grounder to first. 3-2 count with the game on the line; at least you didn’t leave the bat on your shoulder this year, Howard!
10/8/2011 –
Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis dies – For all of the funny comments and jokes I can make here, I will keep it classy. In his time, Mr. Davis was a pioneer for the NFL, mainly with the hiring of minority coaches and front office personnel. He also coined maybe the greatest team slogan there is in sports: “commitment to excellence.”
10/10/2011 –
TCU accepts invitation to join Big 12 Conference – We will soon find them joining the PAC-16 once they realize how bad UT (Texas) has screwed up the Big 12 conference.
NBA cancels 1st 2 weeks of the regular season – I'm slowing becoming more resolved to the fact that there won't be an NBA season. This spells doom for Mr. and Mrs. Armchair, as the elder Armchairs will need something else to occupy their time spent watching Kings games. Three words: Metal.Security.Door.
10/11/2011 –
Denver Broncos announce Tim Tebow will start next game against the Miami Dolphins on October 23rd – This game is in Miami where they will honor the Tebow led 2008 Florida Gator’s National Championship team. Wouldn’t it be great if Tebow led the Broncos to a comeback win against the Dolphins?? (You have to love foreshadowing)
Theo Epstein on verge of leaving Red Sox to join the Chicago Cubs – If Epstein is able to go to the Cubs and win them a World Series title, he will be known in Baseball history as the greatest GM ever. Billy Goats beware!!!
10/15/2011 –
Rangers reach World Series, again. – Somewhere, The Professor is giving himself a champagne shower.
10/16/2011 –
San Francisco 49ers beat the Detroit Lions 25-19, Head Coaches Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz (Lions) exchange the “Handshake Heard Round the World!!!” – I personally loved the whole exchange. It was one of those situations where if you are on the receiving end, you hate it. If you are on the giving end, you love it. Lucky for us, we where on the giving end.
Dan Wheldon dies – Very sad. If there is one sport my son or daughter will not partake in, it’s Indy car or NASCAR. Growing up, my dad would tape the Indy 500 every year and I would watch it with him. I would get excited about seeing the cars crash into the walls and into each other. Talk about a change in perspective. It’s the same race that Wheldon won twice.
Cardinals defeat the Brewers, make World Series – Early predictions, Cards over Rangers in 6 Games. Three reasons – 1. Cards have the better pitcher in Carpenter, 2. Cards have the better hitter in Puljos, and 3. Cards have the better manager in LaRossa.
10/18/2011 –
Raiders trade for Cincinnati Bengals QB, Carson Palmer – In exchange for a QB who hasn’t played any football all offseason, pre-season, and regular season, and who also hasn’t played any GOOD football in about 3 years, the Raiders gave up a 1st round pick in the 2012 draft, and a conditional 1st or 2nd round pick in the 2013 draft. The Raiders have only two draft picks now in next year's draft, a 5th and 6th round pick. Way to build a champion, Raiders!!
Lions trade RB Jerome Harrison to the Eagles for RB Ronnie Brown – Greatest thing to ever happen to Jerome Harrison was to be traded. The trade was ultimately voided because it was discovered during Jerome Harrison’s physical that he had a brain tumor. He will miss the rest of the season but his long term outlook is very good and may even be able to play football next season. Life-saving trade.
NBA owners and players meet for 16 hours, discussions end with no resolutions – Billionaires fighting with Millionaires.
10/19/2011 -
Game 1 of the World Series, Cards beat the Rangers 3-2 - Classic pitchers duel. Prediction is looking pretty good.
10/20/2011 -
Game 2 of the World Series, Rangers defeat the Cards 2-1 - The Rangers comeback in the 9th inning to take a 2-1 lead after Ian Kinsler channels his inner Dave Roberts and steals second base, maybe the greastest stolen base in World Series history. After a bloop hit and a missed cut off throw by The Machine (Albert Puljos) that allowed Elvis Andrus to advance to second on his base hit, two sacrifices later, Rangers tied the series at 1-1.
10/21/2011 -
Theo Epstein officially resigns as GM of the Bo Sox, joins Cubs - Somewhere in heaven, Harry Carry is smiling.
10/22/2011 -
Game 3 of the World Series, The Machine hits 3 HR's to lead the Cards to a 16-7 defeat of the Rangers - Puljos joins Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson as the only players in World Series history to hit 3 HR's in one game. Hope he saved some of those hits for later in the series.
10/23/2011 -
Tim Tebow makes his first start at QB of the season - Who says you can't foreshadowed? Boy Wonder leads the Broncos to a comeback victory over the Miami Dolphins. A home game for the Broncos in Miami (Tebow Nation was out in full force), Tebow does what he does best and leads the miracle comeback on the same day the Miami Dolphins honor his 2008 Florida Gators' National Championship team.
Game 4 of the World Series, Rangers shut out the Cards in a 4-0 victory - Puljos should have saved some of those HR's for this game. Derek Holland pitches 8 shut out innings to lead the Rangers to victory. Prediction is looking shaky.
Saints defeat the Colts 62-7 - The Colts yet again proved that the MVP of this NFL season should be Peyton Manning.
Mr. Armchair Speaking!!
